YN: New merch, new collaboration out, but you have also had some endings like the end of your epilogue tour. Could you tell us a bit about your feelings before the tour began?

LYN LAPID: I was super excited to be back on the road playing for cities I’ve never played in or been to before. I was a bit worried about how I was going to stay healthy on tour during the winter season (I did not, I got sick halfway), but I was able to tour for the first time with my current guitarist and content crew, which I was so excited for!

YN; Now that the tour is over, has anything changed in your sound, performances or the way you perceive the music industry and your profession?

LYN LAPID: I definitely strive to improve in my live shows as a performer each chance I get. There’s always a way to make my set more exciting, interactive, and fun, and I always find new ways to do it every run or show I do. I feel like making music and touring these past three years, I’ve definitely found a balance between making songs to listen to in your bedroom and making songs that are meant to be played live.

YN: Speaking of new songs, your single with mxmtoon, “back from the dead” just dropped! What can you tell us about the collaboration and about the inspiration behind “back from the dead”?

LYN LAPID: I wrote that song last year along with some talented friends Mags Duval and Adam Yaron. I kept it in my drafts not having a place for it on the last project, “to love in the 21st century.” But when I sent a couple of demos to Maia (mxmtoon), she responded saying she loved “back from the dead,” and I knew then that should be the song we release together. I was able to meet Maia for the first time in New York to make content with her, and she was the most down to earth person ever.

YN: You also just wrapped up a weekend at the HITC music festival in Queens, earlier this month, how was it performing on the “east side”? What was your favorite part about it? (No technical errors this year, yay!)

LYN LAPID: I think my favorite part was the trailer I had, it was a really nice trailer. It was super full circle to perform “east side” in my favorite city on my favorite coast of the US. Unfortunately, I was fighting for life with a fever and laryngitis during my set, but I think my band definitely crushed. I’m super proud of them and my crew for making the set come together.

YN: As an artist who rose to fame during the new media age and with the help of the power of the people, how has social media played a role in the way you interact with your fans and release your music?

LYN LAPID: I still use social media every day to interact with my supporters. I always want my listeners’ input on what songs I should finish, put out, or put on my projects. I try not to read comment sections anymore for own well-being, but I love interacting on the “gremlyn” broadcast channel on Instagram and on my discord.

YN: Your first song to go viral “Producer Man” was also a song that launched your career before it started! Not only did the song show your talent, but it also showed the depth to your dedication, authenticity and resilience in the music industry. If there’s anything you could tell yourself before it all began, what would it be?

LYN LAPID: I would very much yell at myself to get educated on the business side of the music industry. “Producer Man” was my way of saying that I refuse to sacrifice authenticity, or creative control in my music for big money deals or fame. But at the time, I was still very much a clueless 17-year-old with no knowledge of how the industry actually worked. Thankfully after writing “Producer Man,” I was only surrounded by people who wanted to help me succeed as an artist, writer, and performer, but I realize now the best thing I could have done for myself at 17 is be actively aware of who I choose to work with, sign with, and collaborate with.

YN: With this year moving at light speed, a number of collaborations released, new beginnings, and new endings, what could we be seeing this year? Anything you are looking forward to in your own life?

LYN LAPID: I’m excited to say I’ve been using all of 2024 to write my debut album. I’m still writing it, but I’m looking very soon to start announcing some very exciting news around the album. And with a new album on the way, that may or may not also mean news around another headline run…
