88Rising’s 2-Day festival HEAD IN THE CLOUDS will be making its first return this spring, after its successful NYC debut last year. To be held in the Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York, the festival will be taking place on May 10th and 11th in celebration of Asian talent and culture, during AAPI (Asian-American Pacific Islander) Heritage Month. BIBI
One of the headlining acts this year, South Korean singer-songwriter BIBI makes a presence in the music industry with her freewheeling and rebellious music. She was first discovered by the queen of South Korean rap, Yoon Mi Rae, after posting self-produced songs on SoundCloud. Introspecting on the sublime nature of pain and life, her music features various genres including R&B, rap, hip-hop, and ballads. She is most known for being a game changer in the Korean music industry with her bold music, messages, and visuals for songs like “홍대 R&B (Hongdae R&B)” and “BIBI Vengeance".
LYN LAPID
An American singer-songwriter of Filipino descent, she is known for her powerful yet delicate voice, creating a unique tone in her music. After posting covers of songs, and teasers of her debut single “Producer Man” which reflects on her negative experience with a producer at the age of seventeen, she quickly accumulated tens of millions of views and a fanbase. With hit songs “in my mind” and “Detached”, she connects with listeners about the ups and downs of love and life.
YOUNG POSSE
Fresh off their debut in October 2023, this K-POP girl group that will have you craving a bowl of "MACARONI CHEESE", but will also leave you with a fresh take on the K-POP industry. They’re most known for bringing first-generation K-POP nostalgia back with their quirky and fun concepts. Their performance is highly anticipated as the five members have gained popularity for their rap skills, dance and stage presence.
JULIET IVY
Known for her nihilism but making it girly pop, Ivy is an indie pop artist. Her genre-bending discography amalgamating pop, indie, folk, and hyper pop creates dreamy melodies. She has garnered popularity and interest with hits like “we’re all eating each other” and “ZOOM”, as well as her recent EP “Play Pen.” Having grown up in a multicultural household her sound is often influenced by her Colombian and Chinese heritage.
DEB NEVER
Not wanting to be identified by genre or identity, Deb Never, is an openly queer Korean-American artist stepping out of the traditional genre lines.Their popularity has risen in the punk-emo rap realm, with music that is brutally honest and melancholic. Such emotions are conveyed through popular songs like “Someone Else” and “Push” , a collaboration with slowthai. Already touring with acts like Tommy Genisis, Deb Never is an artist to keep your eyes on.
Interested in attending one of the biggest Asian-American music festivals but also want to contribute to a good cause? A portion of the proceeds from Head in the Clouds will be donated to “Heart of Dinner”, an organization that addresses food insecurity and social isolation amongst Asian-American seniors living in under-resourced and under-invested communities.
