5 FEMALE ARTISTS YOU CAN’T MISS AT GOV BALL

Jan 17 2024

by Chris Mae

Governor’s Ball Music Festival in NYC features a stunning line up of chart-topping women artists, from pop to rappers to R&B singers. Being held at Flushing Meadows Corona Park again this year, the location provides more than enough space for 60+ performances at 3 different stages, big shady trees for the summer sun and ample water stations. The headliners this year include SZA, Peso Pluma and 21 Savage to name a few.

Here are some exciting artists you should see:

MIMI WEBB

Hailing from Canterbury, England, Mimi Webb has written and sang about her past relationships and captured the hearts of many. Known for tracks like “Red Flags” or “Ghost of You”, the 23-year old pop singer has had a successful solo tour in the UK and Ireland. You can see her set on day one at Gov Ball (Friday, June 7th) with names like Post Malone and Dominic Fike.

DOECHII

You’ve probably heard her TikTok viral track “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake” or “What It Is” (featuring Kodak Black). Doechii opened for the legendary Dojacat during her “Scarlet” tour. Our Tampa’s Swamp Princess’ sound is reminiscent of Queen Nicki’s energetic rapping and flowing pop. A lot of her work has promoted the concept of being a powerful black woman and owning it. You can see Doechii on day 2 of Gov Ball (Saturday, June 8th).

SABRINA CARPENTER

Witty and charismatic, pop's new princess, Sabrina Carpenter has created a trend online for wowing crowds by changing her lyrics to comedic verses at the end of her song “Nonsense”. She’s recently opened for Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour. Her sound can be described as soft pop meets R&B. You can see her at Gov Ball on day 2 alongside big names like Tyla and Sexyy Red.

VICTORIA MONÉT

With her dreamy and sensual discography, and powerful songwriting, Victoria Monét has risen to the top with seven grammy nominations. In her decade long career in the R&B and pop space, she has written many tracks for stars like Ariana Grande, Nas, Travis Scott and BLACKPINK. Her new tracks “On My Mama” and "How Does It Make You Feel" from her album “Jaguar II” are steadily paced with elegant vocals and will leave you wanting more. You can catch Victoria Monét on day 3 of Gov Ball (Sunday, June 9th).

ELYANNA

Palestinian-Chilean singer-songwriter Elyanna started on good old soundcloud and has risen to having 1.1M followers with millions of views on her reels. She has recently released her single “MAMA EH” in 2022. You can listen to her sounds on day 3 of Gov Ball (Sunday, June 9th) with artists like Reneé Rapp and Stephen Sanchez.
