5 ASIAN ARTISTS TO SEE AT COACHELLA THIS YEAR

JAN 25 2024 / by Chris Mae

Tickets went live last week for the annual Coachella music and arts festival, boasting a legendary lineup this year including big names like Dojacat, Lana Del Rey and Tyler, The Creator as headliners.

The festival has been introducing us to more Asian artists every year and we’re here for it. In 2023, we had viral names like DPR Live, DPR Ian and BLACKPINK gracing the stage. We’ve got you covered and compiled a list of Asian artists you can’t miss this year.

88RISING FUTURES

Home to Asian and Asian-American artists like Niki, Jackson Wang and LØREN, 88Rising boasts some of the most magnetic and colorful artists. They’ve secured spots at the festival multiple years in a row with influential artists of our generation like Dumbfounded and Joji. Electronic artists ISOxo and Knock2 are confirmed to perform this year as well as ATARASHII GAKKO!. The label has been focusing on a lot of young talent lately like Indonesian rappers Rich Brian and Warren Hue; we’re at the edge of our seats waiting to see who they will bring out at Coachella this year and have been inclined to guess it’s one of the latter. You can see 88Rising’s lineup on Sunday (April 14 and 21).

THUY

Vietnamese-American artist Thuy is known for her soft pop and R&B vocals especially in her popular track “girls like me don’t cry”. She has recently released a single called “don’t miss me too much” which features fast-paced, flowing verses highlighting her effortless songwriting abilities. You can see her perform at Coachella on Saturday (April 13 and 20) with talent like Ice Spice and Grimes.

SID SRIRAM

A R&B singer-songwriter from India, Sid is making waves in the music industry for his Carnatic music. Growing up in California, he creates soulful and strong tracks like “Blue Spaces” or chill tunes like “Do the Dance”. Featured on numerous Indian film soundtracks, his music is raw and full of life. Sid is also slated to go on a US and Europe tour this spring. You can see him on Friday (April 12 and 19) at the festival with names like Peso Pluma and Tinashe.

THE ROSE

Starting from busking on the streets of South Korea to having billboard charting songs like “Sorry” since their debut in 2017, indie-rock band The Rose has captured the hearts of many and secured multiple successful tours last year all around the world. You’ve probably heard of their track “Back to Me” recently, their music video hitting 29 million views within 6 months and going viral for their catchy and meaningful lyrics. You can catch them Sunday (April 14 and 21) with A-list artists like Lil Yachty and Jhené Aiko.

YOASOBI

Japanese duo Yoasobi’s electric music is based on short stories and has caught the attention of many online. One of their tracks “Idol” is featured in a well-known anime called “Oshi No Ko” and has become viral on platforms like TikTok. Their sets are like edm performances with lasers and motion graphics, emitting high energy to the crowd who knows every line by heart. There is a live band with keyboards, drums, guitars and so on to back vocaloid producer Ayase and singer-songwriter Ikura (see our gallery here). You can experience Yoasobi on Friday (April 12 and 19).
